Mayor Arifin Invites Johar Baru Residents to Fix Their Environment

Central Jakarta Mayor, Arifin invited the residents of Johar Baru Sub-district to actively participate in improving environmental quality and maintaining unity.

Their role in providing input and support is key

His statement was conveyed during his visit with 250 representatives of residents and community leaders at the Johar Baru Youth Center Auditorium, Jalan Rawa Selatan IV, RT 16/03, Johar Baru Urban Village, Monday (2/3).

"Hopefully, the residents' support and unity will complete the arrangement to improve the quality of the environment. You (residents) are the one who understands the area in the field, let's solve it together," he expressed.

He went on to say that various environmental issues such as slum areas could only be resolved quickly if the community participated. So far, the government has had assistance programs such as house renovations and the construction of communal toilets for low-income residents.

Hopefully, the role of residents could expedite the resolution of issues. This way, when the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) updates the data on slum neighborhoods in the future, it would decrease significantly.

"Their role in providing input and support is key. If there are bad houses and sanitation, report it in stages starting from the neighborhood association, urban village, sub-district, up to the mayor," he continued.

Johar Baru Sub-district Head, Isnawa Prasetiawan explained his area consists of four urban villages with a total of 40 RWs and 556 RTs, some of which were densely populated areas.

Aside that, his area also has social issues such as welfare, brawls, and susceptibility to fire disasters.

"That's why, we are combining this activity with socialization about the dangers of fire. The hope is residents will become more aware of fire hazards in their neighborhoods," he closed.
